  7.  Note the time element.  John 11:55-12:1.  Passover was very near.

  9. 1.   The Anointing by Mary. v. 1-11.  Cf.  Matt. 26:6-13, Mark
  10.      14:3-9.

  12.      At the supper at Bethany, Martha served, Lazarus sat at the
  13.      table, and Mary anointed the Lord Jesus.
  14.      The ointment of spikenard was very precious.  It was valued at
  15.      300 pence.  A pence is a denarius which was a day-wages of a
  16.      common labourer.  Therefore this ointment had the value of 300
  17.      days labor!

  19.      Mary had sat at Jesus' feet to hear His word (Luke 10:38-42),
  20.      had prayed at His feet (John 11:32), and now she worships Him,
  21.      anointing Him unto His burial.  She appears to have understood
  22.      His approaching death.
  23.      Mary is a beautiful type of the Church, the Bride of Christ,
  24.      who will understand His death and give Him her best.
  25.      The anointing speaks to us of the Holy Ghost.  The anointed
  26.      feet of Christ speak of a rich Holy Ghost ministry.  The hair
  27.      of Mary's head was permeated with the anointing.  She was one
  28.      with the Master.
  29.      The leaders of the Church, the Bride of Christ, will have the
  30.      glorious and holy anointing. (Rev. 12:1)
  31.      Judas Iscariot is a type of the Antichrist.  He was filled
  32.      with covetousness and the love of money.  Note the vast
  33.      difference between the spirit of Judas and the spirit of Mary.
  34.      He had no part in her spirit of holy worship.  He was filled
  35.      with deceit.
  36.      Jesus rebuked Judas. v. 7-8.
  37.      Lazarus' resurrection had a great effect. v. 9-11.  Many
  38.      believed but the hatred of the enemies of Christ only
  39.      increased.

  41. 2.   The Entry into Jerusalem. v. 12-19.
  42.      The multitude praised Jesus, Branches of palms--symbolize
  43.      victory, triumph and rejoicing.  Jesus is King! This was a
  44.      result of Lazarus' resurrection.  The Lord Jesus rode on the
  45.      ass, fulfilling the prophecy of Zech. 9:9.
  46.      The jealousy of the Pharisees increased, v. 19,

  48. 3.   The Greeks Desire to See Jesus. v. 20-50.
  49.      Greek proselytes, desiring to see Christ, came to Philip. Then
  50.      Philip came to Andrew and Andrew and Philip told the Lord
  51.      Jesus.

  53.      Jesus' answer, "The HOUR is come." John 12:27, 2:4, 7:30,
  54.      8:20,13:1, 16:21, 32, 17:1.
  55.      He foretold His death.  The corn of wheat must fall, die, and
  56.      bring forth fruit.  He foretold His resurrection. v. 24.
  57.      He came to die. v. 27.  It was the great purpose of His
  58.      coming into the world.
  59.      The Voice of the Father. v. 28.  Cf.  Matt. 3:17, 17:5.
  60.      Three times He witnessed from heaven concerning His Son.  The
  61.      Perfection of Testimony.

  63.      Again Jesus prophesied of His death. v. 32-33.
  64.      The hardness of heart and unbelief of the people. v. 34-41.
  65.      Isaiah's prophecy fulfilled. Isa.6:10, The glory of the Lord
